Engine & Propulsion

Twin engines are installed in this vessel, complete with a gearbox to enable forward and reverse rotation of the propulsion system. The engines will be primarily controlled from the helm station, however there will also be remote fuel shut off valves and emergency stop control directly mounted on the engine.

Fuel Tanks

Fuel storage on board will consist of permanently installed tanks in both hulls of the catamaran. The tanks will be subdivided by anti-sloshing baffles, and will be complete with deck fill, breather vent, level gauges, valves and piping to all engines in the vessel. The four tanks will be interconnected with transfer actuated by pumps on each side. This complete system will be pressure tested according to

classification requirements.

Remote and manually operated fuel safety shut off valves are situated between the fuel tank and each engine. This remote shut off control system along with the fuel level indicator/alarms are situated in the helm station on the top deck.

Exhaust

For both the main propulsion engines and auxiliary generator engines exhaust of hot waste gases will be combined with the exhaust cooling sea water in the form of a mixed wet-exhaust system, complete with a waterlock/muffler to reduce noise output. These exhausts will exit the vessel above the waterline in the most efficient configuration to minimise backpressure on the engines.Class approved flexible reinforced rubber hose will be used to transport the gases/water from the engines to the stainless steel skin fittings, which are mounted above the waterline and feature a mechanism to prevent back flushing of sea water from waves.

Auxiliary Generators

The vessel will include two main auxiliary generators powered by diesel engines, located in the main engine rooms.Generators will be installed on vibration dampening mounts, within manufacturer-supplied sound boxes to minimise the noise and vibrations from these units.

Engine Room Ventilation & Extraction

The engine room will be provided will forced inducted ventilation and extraction by means of fans/extractors. The fan's capacity will be adequate for the main engine room's air consumption requirements and to grant, at maximum engine rpm, an inside-outside maximum temperature rise not exceeding 15°C. Ventilation will be guaranteed by air intakes on the sides of the superstructures, with fire dampers that will automatically close in case of fire.

Fresh Water

A single fresh water tank will be installed on one side of the catamaran, below the main deck and forward of the engine bay bulkhead. This tank will have a deck filler tube, breather valves, tank level indicator, and a pump to provide pressure to feed the fresh water systems throughout the vessel.

Air Conditioning

Comprised of a complete chiller system. Chillers are located below deck, feeding chilled water to above-deck air handlers distributed throughout the vessel. Air handlers are located in key locations to ensure a consistent feed and recirculation of cool air. This will provide fast and efficient cooling throughout the cabin of the vessel to achieve and maintain a comfortable environment during service.

Grey & Black Water

One grey and two black water tanks will be installed; grey water tank opposite the fresh water tank and one black tank in each port and starboard side. These tanks will both feature deck accessible waste removal piping, breather valve, tank level indicator and remote controlled sea-purge, gravity run or with supplemental pump if required.

Fire Fighting

The fire fighting plant will consist of separated fixed and portable systems complying with the RINArules. A fire control station will be installed in the superstructure from which is will be possible to

activate the engine room fire extinguisher, along with the remote fuel supply cut off. The entire vessel will be monitored by smoke and heat detectors, supplemented by a visual and acoustic alarms panel.

Fixed Fire Fighting System

The engine room will be provided with a CO2 fire fighting system. The system located in the engine room will consist of necessary bottles connected to a manifold complete with nozzles and the box will

vent to the atmosphere. The activation of the system from the outside station, will activate the siren, stop the fans, close the fire shutters and cut off the fuel lines. After approximately 30 seconds, the plant will discharge the CO2 into the engine rooms to quench the fire.

Extinguishers — Handheld

A number of portable extinguishers corresponding to classification requirements will be installed in various easy to access compartments.

General Electrical

A bank of batteries in conjunction with two auxiliary generators will supply the electrical power for all of the systems onboard. Marine specific 12 volt batteries will be attached in both parallel and series in order to obtain a stable 24 volts, which will both power (starter motor) and be replenished (alternator) by the main diesel inboard engines used for propulsion. These batteries will then be used for every electrical system in the vessel, from lights to navigation, with the exception of the 230V air conditioning. The auxiliary generators will provide a power of 230 volts of single-phase, 50Hz electrical power to supply the high requirements of the air conditioning compressor and associated water pumps, battery chargers, in addition to the domestic 230-volt items on board.Between these two systems, the vessel will be electrically self-sufficient during operation at sea. Electrical power activation, distribution and monitoring will be controlled from the main electrical switchboard located in the cabin of the helm station. The addition of a shore-power line will also be included to provide power to mass battery chargers, which will condition and charge the batteries when the boat is not in use.
